Three health clusters, one capital

Health Holding divides Riyadh's public provision into three clusters. Riyadh First Health Cluster serves more than 3.9 million beneficiaries through 157 primary care centres, a medical city and 18 general and specialised hospitals with up to 4,000 beds. Riyadh Second serves more than 3.8 million people through 91 primary care centres and 13 hospitals with 2,449 beds, and was among the first clusters whose Ministry of Health staff were transferred to Health Holding. Riyadh Third serves more than 829,000 people through 150 primary care centres and 14 hospitals with 1,945 beds.

Alongside the clusters sit large specialist institutions. King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, established in 1976, operates in Riyadh, Jeddah and Madinah, and King Fahad Medical City lists a total capacity of 1,200 beds. For a disposables buyer this means two distinct demand patterns: high-volume ward and outpatient consumables (masks, gloves, bed sheets, patient gowns) for the cluster network, and theatre lines (surgical gowns, caps, shoe covers) for the surgical and specialist centres.

SFDA is headquartered in Riyadh

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority's headquarters is in the Hittin district of Riyadh. Every medical disposable supplied in the Kingdom needs an SFDA Medical Devices Marketing Authorization, filed on SFDA's GHAD system by the manufacturer or its licensed Saudi authorised representative, and every importer, distributor and warehouse needs its own SFDA establishment licence. Medical masks and examination gloves are covered by specific SFDA guidance documents.

Getting goods to Riyadh

Riyadh is inland, so sea freight lands at a coastal port first. One route is through King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam on the Gulf coast, from where Saudi Arabia Railways runs container trains 566 km to Riyadh Dry Port; SAR signed a three-year agreement with Maersk in 2024 to increase volumes on that service. Cargo can also land at Jeddah on the Red Sea and move inland by road.

For smaller or urgent replenishment orders, goods held at our warehouse in Dubai can travel overland into the Kingdom through the Al Ghuwaifat border crossing. Your forwarder and customs broker choose the route; we quote FOB or CIF to the port you name.
