Eastern Health Cluster, Al-Ahsa and Aramco healthcare

Health Holding's Eastern Health Cluster serves more than 1.9 million beneficiaries through 120 primary care centres, 22 hospitals and a medical city, with 3,456 beds. It was one of the first three clusters whose Ministry of Health staff were transferred to Health Holding. To the south, Al-Ahsa Health Cluster serves more than 1.3 million people through 65 primary care centres and 11 hospitals with 2,055 beds.

The province also has a large non-government provider: Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare, based in Dhahran, with primary care facilities in Abqaiq, Al-Hasa, Ras Tanura and 'Udhailiyah.

Two Gulf ports and a rail line to Riyadh

King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is the start of Saudi Arabia Railways' 566 km container rail service to Riyadh Dry Port, which SAR agreed with Maersk in 2024 to expand. Further north, Jubail Commercial Port is being expanded: in June 2026 the Saudi Ports Authority awarded Saudi Global Ports a container terminal concession worth more than SR 2 billion that will raise capacity to 2.4 million TEU with a 1,400 m berth.

For an Eastern Province importer, that means sea freight from India can land close to the warehouse, and the same port can feed Riyadh by rail. Goods held at our Dubai warehouse can also come overland through the UAE's Al Ghuwaifat crossing.

Bahrain next door

The King Fahd Causeway runs 25 km from Al Aziziah, south of Al Khobar, to Bahrain and has been open since 1986. APM Terminals, which operates Bahrain's Khalifa Bin Salman Port, names the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia as part of its primary hinterland, so the two markets are closely linked for freight.

Customs duty under the GCC Customs Union is collected once at the first point of entry, but medical device registration is national: a product sold in Saudi Arabia needs an SFDA marketing authorisation, and the same product sold in Bahrain needs to meet the National Health Regulatory Authority's requirements. Plan registrations for both markets before shipping a mixed consignment.
