Jeddah Islamic Port and the Red Sea route
Jeddah Islamic Port sits on the Red Sea coast. DP World's Jeddah South Container Terminal handled more than 1.3 million TEU in 2025, after an $800 million modernisation that raised its capacity from 1.8 million to 4 million TEU, with a 2,150 m quay and 18 m of water alongside. Across all ports operated by the Saudi Ports Authority, container throughput reached 8,317,235 TEU in 2025.
For disposables shipped from India, Jeddah is the natural landing point for western Saudi Arabia. Makkah and Madinah have no seaports, so their sea cargo is also landed at a Red Sea port and moved inland. A Jeddah-based importer can therefore serve the holy cities as well as the city itself from one point of entry.
Two health clusters and specialist care
Health Holding lists two clusters for the city. Jeddah First Health Cluster serves more than 1.8 million beneficiaries through 55 primary care centres and 6 hospitals with 1,111 beds. Jeddah Second Health Cluster serves more than 996,000 people through 37 primary care centres and 6 hospitals with 1,965 beds. King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre also operates in Jeddah.
That network buys the standard clinical list: masks and examination gloves for primary care, isolation gowns and bed sheets for wards, and theatre lines for surgery. Government purchasing for the clusters runs through NUPCO and Etimad tenders, which overseas suppliers enter through a Saudi-registered distributor.
Food businesses and dual-use lines
Food businesses such as commercial kitchens, caterers, bakeries and food processors use hair nets, bouffant caps, PE aprons and food-service gloves as hygiene consumables. How these are regulated depends on how they are sold. Items placed on the market as medical devices need an SFDA marketing authorisation; SASO's technical regulation for personal protective equipment covers non-medical PPE and explicitly excludes PPE intended for medical use. Your importer should confirm which route applies to each item before the first order, especially for lines such as masks that are sold for both purposes. SFDA requires masks for ordinary use to be labelled as non-medical.
For gloves used with food, material matters as much as fit: PE gloves suit short tasks with frequent changes, TPE gives a closer fit for longer preparation, and vinyl gloves should only be used with fatty foods if the plasticiser is documented as compliant. Our glove guide sets out the evidence.
How we supply Jeddah
We have no office, warehouse or stock in Jeddah or elsewhere in Saudi Arabia, and we hold no SFDA authorisations or licences. Orders ship from India or from our warehouse in Ras Al Khor, Dubai, to your Jeddah importer of record, normally by sea to Jeddah Islamic Port.
We provide spec sheets, certificates of analysis and declarations of the ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 quality standards the goods are supplied to, and confirm before you order which manufacturer documents are available for each item.

Medical disposables in Jeddah: FAQ
Which port do Jeddah shipments use?
Jeddah Islamic Port. DP World's Jeddah South Container Terminal there handled more than 1.3 million TEU in 2025 and has 4 million TEU of capacity.
Can a Jeddah importer supply Makkah and Madinah?
Yes. Makkah and Madinah are inland, so sea cargo for both is landed at a Red Sea port such as Jeddah and moved by road. Each product still needs SFDA authorisation.
Do food-industry hair nets need SFDA registration?
Items sold as medical devices need an SFDA marketing authorisation. Non-medical PPE falls under SASO's technical regulation, which excludes PPE intended for medical use. Confirm the route for each item with your importer.
How many hospitals are in Jeddah's health clusters?
Health Holding lists 6 hospitals in Jeddah First Health Cluster and 6 in Jeddah Second, with 1,111 and 1,965 beds respectively.
Do you keep stock in Jeddah?
No. We ship from India or our Dubai warehouse; your importer holds stock in Jeddah.
