What is a PE-coated isolation gown?
A PE-coated isolation gown is a disposable protective gown built from a PP non-woven base fabric that is laminated with a thin polyethylene (PE) film. The non-woven gives the gown its drape, softness and tear strength, while the PE film forms a continuous plastic barrier on the surface that liquids cannot pass through. The result is a gown that feels close to an ordinary non-woven gown to wear but resists fluid like a coated garment.
Its purpose is to protect staff during tasks where contact with blood, body fluids or other liquids is likely — the situations where a plain PP isolation gown would let fluid wick or strike through to the uniform underneath. Barrier performance — how the PE film works
On a plain spunbond gown, liquid sitting on the surface can eventually penetrate the fabric, especially under pressure or when an area is wet for a sustained period. The laminated PE film on this gown removes that path: it is a non-porous plastic layer, so splashes, sprays and pooled fluid bead on the surface and run off instead of soaking through. This makes the gown fluid-resistant and a sound choice for fluid-heavy nursing, patient screening, intake and isolation work.
The trade-off is breathability — a coated gown is warmer than an uncoated PP gown because the film also limits air and moisture-vapour transfer. The fabric weight is approximately 25–45 gsm, balancing barrier and comfort. Where a fully impervious, waterproof gown is required for the highest-risk contact, WinHyCare's CPE gown (a solid cast-polyethylene film) is the next step up; where breathability matters more than fluid resistance, the plain PP isolation gown is the lighter alternative.
Style, cuffs and sizing
The gown is a tie-on design, fastening at the neck and the back so the wrap-around panel overlaps to cover the back of the uniform. At the wrist you can choose a knitted or elastic cuff, or a thumb-loop cuff — the thumb loop hooks over the thumb to stop the sleeve riding up the forearm, keeping the sleeve end tucked under examination gloves for an unbroken barrier during active tasks.
Standard sizes are 115×137 cm and 120×140 cm (width × length), and other dimensions can be made as required. The generous free-size cut fits most adults over normal clothing, so a single stock item serves a whole department and keeps procurement simple.
