What is an examination couch roll?
An examination couch roll — also called a bed paper roll, couch paper or examination paper — is a roll of perforated paper drawn across an examination couch so that a fresh sheet can be torn off for every patient. After the patient leaves, the used length is torn away and discarded and a clean section is pulled down for the next person, keeping the couch hygienic with almost no effort and no laundering.
WinHyCare couch rolls are a 2-ply product: the top layer is a soft, absorbent white tissue paper at 33 gsm that contacts the patient, bonded to a backing layer of blue PE (polyethylene) film. The tissue absorbs perspiration and minor fluids while the PE film stops anything soaking through to the couch upholstery, combining comfort, absorbency and surface protection in a single roll.
Material and 2-ply construction
The absorbent face is 33 gsm white tissue paper — soft against the skin and able to soak up perspiration, ultrasound or examination gel residue and other minor fluids. Laminated beneath it is a blue PE film that acts as a barrier, so liquids are held in the tissue rather than passing through to the couch. The blue backing is also a clear visual cue that the protective side is facing down.
The roll is perforated at regular intervals into individual tear-off sheets, giving 25 sheets per roll, so staff simply pull and tear a clean length for each patient rather than cutting paper to size. The 51 cm width covers a standard couch and the 50 m roll length means fewer roll changes during a busy clinic session.
